- 2 medium apples (like Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
- Wash and dry the apples.
- Slice the apples thinly, about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. A mandoline slicer works best for uniform slices.
- Remove the core and seeds from each slice.
- Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Do not overlap them.
- In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and nutmeg (if using).
- Lightly sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over both sides of the apple slices.
- Bake for 2-3 hours, flipping the slices halfway through.
- Bake until the chips are dry and slightly crisp. They should not be browned.
- Turn off the oven and let the chips cool completely in the oven with the door slightly ajar. This helps them crisp up further.
- Store the cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature.
Notes
- Thin slices will crisp up faster.
- Adjust baking time based on your oven and desired crispness.
- Apples will shrink significantly during baking.
- These chips are best enjoyed within a few days.
