Make fluffy, quick donuts without deep frying using your air fryer. This recipe yields sweet, tender donuts coated in classic cinnamon sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar (for batter)
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and 0.25 cup sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, 2 tablespoons melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix the batter.
  4. Lightly spray your donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Fill each donut cavity about two-thirds full with batter.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully transfer the donut pan to the air fryer basket. Cook for 7 to 9 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. While the donuts cook, prepare the coating: In a shallow dish, mix the 0.5 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon.
  8. Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in a small bowl.
  9. Once the donuts are cooked, let them cool in the pan for 2 minutes. Gently remove the donuts from the pan.
  10. Dip each warm donut first into the melted butter, ensuring both sides are coated.
  11. Immediately dredge the buttered donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully covered.
  12. Place the coated donuts on a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • If you do not have a donut pan, you can use a round cookie cutter to cut shapes from rolled-out dough, but cooking time may vary.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket if you are cooking donuts without a pan; cook in batches if necessary.
