Make a rich, creamy, and traditional Puerto Rican holiday drink similar to eggnog, featuring coconut, spices, and rum.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (13.5 oz) can full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 (15 oz) can cream of coconut (e.g., Coco Lopez)
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
  • 1.5 cups white rum (e.g., Don Q or Bacardi)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus extra for garnish
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Combine the coconut milk, cream of coconut, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk in a blender.
  2. Add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves to the blender.
  3. Blend the mixture on high speed until completely smooth, about 1 minute.
  4. With the blender running on low speed, slowly pour in the white rum. Blend briefly to combine.
  5. Taste the mixture. Add more cinnamon or rum if desired.
  6. Pour the Coquito into clean glass bottles or jars.
  7. Seal the containers tightly and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  8. Shake well before serving chilled. Garnish each glass with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.

Notes

  • For the creamiest texture, chill all canned ingredients before blending.
  • If you prefer a thicker drink, reduce the amount of evaporated milk slightly.
  • Store Coquito in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • You can substitute the white rum with spiced rum for a different flavor profile.
