Cook a tender and juicy turkey breast in your slow cooker for a simple, hands-off holiday or weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 lb bone-in turkey breast
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for gravy)
  • 1 cup reserved cooking liquid (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Place the turkey breast skin-side up in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle the entire packet of dry onion soup mix evenly over the turkey breast.
  3. Pour the chicken broth around the base of the turkey, avoiding the skin.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Tent loosely with foil and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  6. To make the gravy, pour the cooking liquid from the slow cooker into a saucepan, leaving behind any solids.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk the cornstarch with 1/4 cup of cold water until smooth.
  8. Bring the reserved liquid in the saucepan to a simmer over medium heat. Whisk in the cornstarch slurry.
  9. Continue to simmer, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add more broth if the gravy is too thick.
  10. Slice the turkey breast against the grain and serve immediately with the slow cooker gravy.

Notes

  • For crispier skin, transfer the turkey breast to a baking sheet after cooking and place it under a preheated broiler for 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  • You can substitute the onion soup mix with 1 tablespoon of dried herbs like thyme, rosemary, and sage mixed with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • If you are using a boneless turkey breast, reduce the cooking time by about 1 to 2 hours.
