Ingredients
Scale
1 pound cooked macaroni
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
In a bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and cheeses. Mix well until the cheese is evenly distributed.
Form the macaroni and cheese mixture into bite-sized balls or logs.
Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
Dredge each macaroni and cheese bite first in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs.
Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
Carefully fry the coated bites in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot, for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through.
Remove the bites with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Fried Mac and Cheese Bites!
Notes
You can add a pinch of cayenne pepper or garlic powder to the cheese mixture for extra flavor.
For a creamier texture, use a béchamel sauce as a binder for the macaroni and cheese before shaping.
These bites can be made ahead of time and frozen. Fry them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
