Ingredients
Scale
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 cup long grain white rice
1 3/4 cups chicken broth or water
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Add the uncooked rice to the saucepan and stir constantly for about 1 minute until the edges of the grains look slightly translucent. This toasts the rice for better texture.
Pour in the chicken broth or water. Add the garlic powder and salt. Stir once to combine.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for an additional 10 minutes. Do not remove the lid during this resting period.
Fluff the rice gently with a fork. Stir in the fresh parsley, if using. Serve your buttery rice side immediately.
Notes
For an even richer flavor, substitute half the butter with brown butter. Melt the butter slowly until the milk solids toast and turn golden brown before adding the rice.
If you prefer the baked method, try the ‘Stick of Butter Rice’ variation using beef consomme and French onion soup, baked at 350°F for about an hour.
This recipe makes a great base for adding Parmesan cheese at the end for a cheesy butter rice flavor.
