A recipe for a refreshing homemade beverage combining black tea, fresh strawberries, and lemon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose leaf black tea)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 3 lemons)
  • 1 cup cold water (for dilution)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and extra strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat.
  2. Add the tea bags or loose leaf tea to the hot water. Steep for 5 minutes for black tea. Remove tea bags or strain loose leaves.
  3. While the tea is still warm, stir in the granulated sugar until it dissolves completely.
  4. Add the sliced strawberries to the warm, sweetened tea. Let the mixture steep for 15 minutes to infuse the strawberry flavor.
  5. Strain the tea mixture to remove the steeped tea bags/leaves and the strawberries. You can press the strawberries gently to extract more juice.
  6. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and the 1 cup of cold water for dilution.
  7. Chill the tea mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until completely cold.
  8. To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled tea over the ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and a fresh strawberry.

Notes

  • For a stronger strawberry flavor, lightly muddle the strawberries before adding them to the warm tea for infusion.
  • If you prefer green tea, use 4 green tea bags and steep for only 3 minutes.
  • Adjust sugar and lemon juice amounts after chilling to balance the sweet and sour profile to your preference.
  • This recipe makes a pitcher size batch, perfect for parties.
