Make rich, fudgy brownies with a distinct, creamy peanut butter ribbon throughout. This scratch recipe creates a bakery-style dessert with a glossy top.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for peanut butter mixture)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for peanut butter mixture)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter and granulated sugar together until combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth and creamy.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the batter in the pan. Pour the remaining brownie batter over the peanut butter layer.
  8. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the peanut butter mixture into the chocolate batter to create ribbons. Do not over-swirl.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the edge comes out with moist crumbs attached. The center should still look slightly gooey.
  10. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment overhang and cutting them into squares.

Notes

  • For the best swirl effect, ensure your peanut butter mixture is slightly softened but not runny.
  • To achieve a glossy crust, avoid overmixing the batter once the flour is added.
  • Cool the brownies completely before slicing for clean, bakery-style cuts.
