Make crispy ranch chicken drumsticks easily on one sheet pan. This recipe uses baking powder to help achieve maximum skin crispiness while baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs chicken drumsticks, skin on
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (aluminum-free preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken drumsticks very dry using paper towels. This step is crucial for crispy skin.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the dry ranch seasoning mix, baking powder, black pepper, and olive oil. Mix well until a thick paste forms.
  4. Add the dried drumsticks to the bowl. Use your hands to coat each drumstick evenly with the ranch mixture.
  5. Arrange the coated drumsticks on the prepared sheet pan in a single layer, ensuring there is space between each piece for air circulation.
  6. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, flipping the drumsticks halfway through the cooking time.
  7. The chicken is done when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit and the skin is deeply golden brown and crisp.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest on the pan for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, place a wire rack on top of your foil-lined sheet pan and place the drumsticks on the rack. This allows heat to circulate underneath.
  • If you prefer a lower sodium option, you can make your own ranch seasoning blend using dried herbs and spices instead of a packet.
  • You can add sturdy vegetables like broccoli florets or chopped potatoes to the pan during the last 25 minutes of cooking for a complete meal.
